RAAC is a lightweight form of concrete; because it is weaker than regular concrete, concerns have been raised about its long-term durability. The Department for Education (DfE) has recently changed its guidance to education settings on the management of RAAC to take a more precautionary approach and, in schools affected, spaces will be vacated.

As the maintaining authority for our schools, ODST 's aim is always to prioritise the safety of all pupils and staff. Having been aware of the concerns around RAAC for some time, we have taken steps, including building surveys where appropriate, to ensure that all our school buildings are safe. We have had full risk assessments in place for some time.

ODST schools are not affected by this DfE decision as we have no evidence of RAAC in any of our buildings. ODST schools will therefore continue to function as normal and we will continue to monitor all aspects of health and safety.
